Ministry Background

  • Bafia is a town in Cameroon located in the Center region, 120 km north of Yaoundé. Bafia is the capital of the Mbam-et-Inoubou department. It has approximately 55,700 inhabitants. It is the third largest city in the Center region after Yaoundé and Mbalmayo.
  • The Bafia are a Bantu population of Central Africa, established in Cameroon on the right bank of the Mbam, east of the Bapéi mountains (Mbam department, Bafia sub-prefecture).
  • They are mainly farmers, although they also hunt in the dry season. Their territory covers a region of equatorial savannah watered by small tributaries of the Mbam and the Sanaga and interspersed with islands of sparse forest. It is a land of contacts between the savannah of North- and the forest of South-Cameroon.
  • They speak Bafia, a Bantu language.
  • The Bafians are animists, Muslims or Christians. The Bafians were the followers of traditional primitive religions. The Bafians are mostly believers, there is much more Christianity than Islam (very minority in the region)
