Salesians of Don Bosco Shire (SDB Shire) is a religious non-profit organization founded in 2008 mainly working on academic education. It is providing quality education to the poorest of the poor. SDB Shire aims at supporting the youth and children to have a time to play, sing, laugh, and learn together by providing recreational areas such as music rooms, foot ball field, basketball, theatrical room, and other in door and out door games to engage them in vocational trainings and skills. After the conflict Don Bosco shire is working in humanitarian services by providing food and non-food items to support the displaced and host communities continue their living. It also mainly working on young people to stay in safe place and teach them selves. The youth center found in Don Bosco Shire is the only youth center in Shire where youth can come and enjoy to learn new beginnings.
This ministry is designed to help youths enhance their musical skills. It offers a nurturing environment where a passion for music can flourish. The program includes comprehensive instruction in music theory and practical techniques. Participants learn to play instruments like the guitar and keyboard while also developing vocal skills such as singing and note reading.
In addition to learning musical theories other activities can be involved in this ministry such as dancing, acting performance and other related activities.
1. Acadamic school: Salesians of Don Bosco Shire as it was founded for many basic reasons: the first chief reason is providing quality education for the poorest of the poor. There are a wide variety of activities designed and being implemented in our center. It encompasses the elemntary grades from grade 1st up to grade 8th and the high school fromgrade 9th up to 10th. In addition to the acadamic school there are extracurricular activities which includes clubs and physical education.
2. Youth center:The center has been working on youth empowerment from its foundation time incollboration with different organizations pertaining the improvement of the good will of the young people specailly the women. Recently, the center was operating on recreating youth in due with the fund from Don Bosco Mondo of Germany which includes sport tornaments like foot ball, basket ball, volley ball and other indoor games. In Corporating to the acadamic school also there is a music room and theatrical room
3. Skill training: After the conflict in Tigray most of the people remained unemployed and displaced. Not only this but also they are traumatized. This highly occuring on women. In order to support them to have a skill we are providing hair dressing training with the duration of three months including the entreprenuership and truam healing training.
4. Social works: the center is also implementing social and emergency activities. During the conflict and the humanitarian crisis in Tigray, SDB was among the very few organisations always present and operational in the region, delivering key life-saving humanitarian services to the civil population. It was providing humanitarian services like food item, non-food Item and hygiene materials. And the center has also voluntary works to serve the community.
5. Informal class: during the conflict all the children were remained out of school.After the signature of the peace-agreement, SDB Shire has been the first institution in Tigray to resume delivering education services through informal classes. Even this days since public schools are filled with internally displaced people (IDP) the displaced children are still out of school. To support these children the center is providing informal classes to the IDP children during the summer season and accordingly.
6. Trauma healing: the conflict put a black scare in the mind of the people and they are experiencing traumatic events. To support these people heal from their wound we are providing basic psychosocial support services like trauma healing training, individual counselling, group therapy.
On our behalf we are happy with the people who can do the job during short summer courses. The qualification may include basic training regarding the mentioned thematic area.
Skilled in music teaching and performance, the team uses music as a healing therapy for youths and children. This approach harnesses the transformative power of music to offer emotional support and promote well-being.
It is better if the total number of volunteers is not more than 4 or 5.
Volunteers will be stationed in an urban area. The local community, recovering from conflict, has diverse needs ranging from psychological trauma support to essential food and non-food items. Informal education is needed to assist children who have been out of school and remain among internally displaced persons. Volunteers will be hosted by the Salesians at their center.

A medical facility is located near the center in the city. The center’s staff and volunteers are available to support visiting volunteers during their stay. Due to the post-war context, the political climate is not fully stable.
