Ministry Background

The mission in Kazembe exists since 1983. Right now we have a main mother church with 30 outstation, daily Oratory for children and youth, Carpentry School with the Boarding.

Purpose & Objectives

Helping in the salesian mission in Kazembe. Morning is generally around different manual jobs in the Oratory, Parish, Carpentry School and the Volunteers House.

Programs, Activities, & Other Projects

Holiday Camps for children (2 weeks in April, August and December). Camps for teenagers (weekends in April, August and December)

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Small repairs,
2. Educating children and youth,
3. Taking care of the Oratory Office and all the sport equipment that is there,
4. Animating dances for children,
5. Helping during the Summer Camps,
6. Taking care of the sport activities (e.g. football, volleyball, netball, basketball, table tennis),
7. Assisting the children and youth during spiritual activities (Friday Mass for Oratory),
8. Giving good night to children,
9. Helping with the homework,
10. Taking care of the Volunteers House (sweeping, moping, cleaning dishes),
11. Teaching in the Carpentry School (e.g. English, Religious Education).

Practical Qualifications/Skills Needed

Basic English.

Useful Academic Preparation

Previous work with the children and the youth.

Useful Experience

Being an salesian animator.

Special Challenges/Conditions

Kazembe is a big village in the northern part of Zambia. The whole province of Luapula is the poorest in the whole country. Many people are still without electricity and running water.

Involvement with the religous community

They have daily breakfast and lunch with the community. They join for daily Mass and rosary.

They can spend their free time with the local people (sport, music, cultural experiences).

Cooked maize flour, rice, fish, soya pieces, chicken, pork, cooked vegetables.

Local Medical Facilities

There is a small clinic close to us (100 meters). The nearest hospital is 12km away. They look basic but are sufficient when if comes to the most common problems (e.g. malaria, infections, stomach problems).
